If you’re drinking a lot of coffee, tea, cold drinks or smoking cigarettes. Some health factors also contribute toward the yellowing of teeth. Old age causes the tooth enamel to thin and, hence, results in yellow teeth. Moreover, having a dry mouth, blocked nasal passages, or health supplement intake can also cause your pearly whites to turn pale.
There are numerous ways to get rid of yellow teeth. For starters, start brushing/flossing your teeth properly and if you keen on drinking coffee or tea, brush teeth after drinking them. For soft drinks, opt for a straw so that your tooth enamel is not harmed.

1. Baking Soda & Lemon Juice
If you happen to bake a lot then you’re in luck because the key ingredient in your cakes can also help reduce the yellowing of teeth. Take a small amount of baking soda and add some lemon juice to it to make a thick paste. If you don’t have lemons you can add water instead. Once you’ve formed a paste, put it on your toothbrush and use it like you would use a regular toothpaste. Leave the paste on for 1 minute and then thoroughly rinse your mouth so that no residue is left on the teeth and then brush your teeth.
Follow this remedy twice or thrice a week but not more than that. Excessive usage can break your tooth enamel and cause sensitivity.
2. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil has numerous health benefits. It is great for your skin, hair, and teeth too! The Lauric Acid present in it won’t necessarily bleach your teeth but it will remove the bacteria that makes your teeth look yellow. Take some coconut oil in your hand and rub it on your teeth. You could also take a spoonful of coconut oil and rinse your mouth with it for a good 10 minutes. Mix in some lemon juice, if you have it on hand. Do this every morning before brushing your teeth.
In case you’re wondering where to buy it, is easily available in almost all grocery stores or pharmacies.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar is known to remove dark stains left behind by coffee or tea. Similarly, it can act as gum/teeth cleanser and help remove yellowness of teeth. Apple Cider Vinegar contains acetic acid and probiotics that decrease yellow-stained teeth and foster the growth of good bacteria. Take a mouthful of apple cider vinegar and rinse your mouth properly, running it through your teeth. Afterward, brush your teeth with a mild toothpaste.
Do this two or three times a week or you’ll risk damaging your teeth and gums.
4. Lemon & Orange Peel
Citrus fruits like lemons and oranges are known for their bleaching properties. You’ll find their extracts in soaps, lotions, and even dish-washing soaps! Next time you make lemonade or some lemon cheesecake, don’t throw away the peel. Use it to rub your teeth. Then simply rinse your mouth with water and brush with a regular toothpaste.
This is recommended at least twice a week.
5. Salt, Strawberry, Baking Soda Scrub
As I said before, citrus fruits have bleaching properties and salt makes a great scrub. Strawberries, together with salt and baking soda form the perfect blend for getting white teeth. Take one to three large strawberries and mash them to form a pulp. Add a pinch of salt and half a teaspoon of baking soda. You can omit baking soda if you want.
Make a nice paste and rub it thoroughly on your teeth and let it sit for five minutes. Do this every night to see good results.
6. Eat fruits & vegetables
Believe it or not, but eating fruits and vegetables can help lessen teeth yellowing, particularly crunch ones. Fruits and vegetables are like a natural toothbrush. They help remove stains and bacteria from your teeth which ultimately results in whiter teeth.
So, if you’re too lazy to do the tips I’ve mentioned before, just start eating more fruits and vegetables. Of course, to see proper results you will have to start brushing properly and avoid tea, coffee, and soft drinks.
Apart than these tips, there are some other natural remedies too that can result in teeth whitening but they aren’t always available in houses. The include activated charcoal and hydrogen peroxide. Activated charcoal can easily be found in good beauty shops. Take some of it atop your toothbrush and brush your teeth with it. Then rinse your mouth and brush with a proper toothpaste. Hydrogen Peroxide for home use can be bought from a drug store and it can be mixed with baking soda to be applied onto teeth.
The trick behind seeing lasting effects from these remedies is to do them regularly but do follow the precautionary measures I’ve mentioned. Let us know in the comments if any of these tips have worked for you or if you know of any other home remedies to get rid of yellow teeth!
